FAQ
Q: How should I clean your products?
A: Cleaning is simple. You can use a lightly dump cloth and a mild soap to gently clean your Seedling Designs product, maintaining its natural beauty and finish.
Q: Can I order identical product?
A: Each of our product is unique due to the natural variations in the Baobab fruit shells. While no two products are exactly alike, they will have similar shapes and styles, ensuring a cohesive look if you purchase more than one.
Q: Is the light bulb included?
A: The light bulb is not included, so you have to choose your own bulb, even a colorful one or a smart light, as long as you use LED or energy saver bulbs up to 5 watts. This ensures optimal performance and prevents the shell from heating up too much and develop cracks due to the natural thermal expansion of the material.
Q: Do you use food-grade paint to finish your bowls and jars?
A: Our products are finished with water-based acrylic paints. While these paints are non-toxic, they are not classified as food-grade or FDA-approved for direct food contact. For decorative purposes or serving dry snacks, our finishes are perfectly suited. However, we recommend avoiding direct contact with moist or oily foods to ensure safety and longevity.
Q: Can I use your nibble bowls for serving oily food?
A: Our nibble bowls are perfect for serving nuts, crisps, or other dry snacks. If you'd like to use them for slightly oily snacks, we recommend wiping them with absorbent paper immediately after use, followed by cleaning with a lightly damp cloth and mild soap to maintain their quality.
Q: How sustainable is your production process?
A: Our production process is 90% sustainable. While we source our electrical cables from China due to local unavailability in Kenya, the majority of our materials are locally sourced. We avoid plastic in our packaging, use offcut wood, and strive to minimize our carbon footprint. We also offer 100% sustainable and compostable cable-free products, optimize for low energy consumption with LED bulbs, and integrate them into our lamp designs.
Q: Are the natural materials used in your lamps durable?
A: Yes, Baobab fiber is incredibly durable. It can withstand falls from up to 30 meters without breaking. This fibrous material expands rather than cracks and can last up to 20 years. Like wood, it requires some care to avoid extreme heat or excessive moisture, but its natural resilience makes it a long-lasting choice.
Q: Do you treat the lamps to protect against insects?
A: Yes, we treat our lamps with pyrethrum, a natural insecticide, to ensure they remain free from insect damage.
Q: Are you disrupting the natural process of the Baobab tree by using its fruit shells?
A: Not at all. The Baobab makes fruit whether we ask for it or not. Also, for every Baobab fruit shell we use, we also plant seeds to ensure the continuation and growth of Baobab trees, contributing positively to the environment and the local economy.
